Destruction in Assam and Bihar

Eastern part of India, majorly Assam and Bihar, have to face destruction caused by flood almost every year. Many loses their belongings, many their lives. Since this happens every year – it leaves a big question what steps have been taken to overcome this disaster by the authorities.This year also, floods in both the states is showing horrible face. Many villages has lost its presence due to flood, a confirmation of 87 deaths in Assam and more than 100 deaths in Bihar has given by the government. Don’t know how many are missing or have not confirmation of their deaths.

Flood in Assam

In Bihar’s, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Mujjafarpur, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Supaul, Kishanganj, flood situation is very critical. As per states’ disaster management authorities, so far 180 thousand people has been affected. According to Central Water Commission, many rivers in Bihar like – Budhi Gandak, Baghmati, Adhwara group, Kamla Balan, Koshi, Mahananda are flowing above the danger sign.

Flood in Darbhanga, Bihar

In the north of Bihar, there is Nepal’s mountain area. In rainy season, all the rainwater of these mountain area flows down to Narayani, Bagmati and Koshi rivers which eventually causes the flood in Bihar.

During this critical time, leaders of states and center plays the blame game, the relief fund game – which hardly put any real help to ground level citizen. India is growing in technology, resources, economy, in many aspects, isn’t it the time when we put our collaborative effort towards sustainable solutions of this critical disaster which every year destructs a lot in Bihar and Assam.

    Both state and central government is responsible for this situation. They should have taken proper action long time back. Still they have opportunity to overcome this situation but they will just play the politics.

    Good article though, such social issues should be highlighted more.
